Strategy -Finding the Spark ✨
You can “find the spark” when you explore intense emotions, such as fear or boredom. Tony encouraged one client Beverly to identify her current emotional state and found her spark.
1. Exploring Intense Emotions:
When Beverly first came on stage, she said she was "fairly well terrified." Tony seized on this, asking her to describe how she gets terrified - how her body and emotions change. This allowed him to understand the intensity of the emotions she was experiencing.
2. Identifying the Current State:
Tony continued probing Beverly's emotional state, asking if she "likes being terrified" and if it provides her with variety, significance, and other human needs. This helped uncover that Beverly was using the feeling of terror as a way to meet certain psychological needs.
3. Finding the Spark:
By pushing Beverly out of her comfort zone and challenging her self-limiting beliefs, Tony was able to catalyze a shift in her state. When she stood up and took off her coat, Tony saw the "little courageous one" emerge, which he named "Joy." This represented the spark of Beverly's authentic self that had been suppressed.
4. Reinforcing the New Identity:
Tony then repeatedly affirmed and validated this new identity of "Joy," encouraging Beverly to fully embrace this courageous, joyful aspect of herself. He helped her see her own inherent worth and significance beyond just "being a good girl."
Throughout the process, Tony used provocative language, imagery, and direct challenges to evoke strong emotional responses from Beverly. This allowed him to break through her habitual patterns of fear and withdrawal, and help her reconnect with her deeper desires and sense of self.
By guiding Beverly through this exploration of intense emotions, Tony was able to uncover and amplify the spark of her authentic, joyful nature - a crucial step in her transformative journey.
