Ⓜ️ Model - 3 Things the Mind Does

When you’re truly upset, your mind plays tricks on you—distorting, deleting, and generalizing reality. What if there was a model that helped you break free from these limiting patterns and see things clearly?

Why?

Our mind is constantly filtering reality. When emotions run high, especially in moments of upset, we tend to distort facts, delete important details, or over-generalize situations. This creates limiting beliefs that trap us in cycles of frustration and helplessness. The Precision Model is designed to disrupt those patterns, allowing us to see the world—and ourselves—with clarity and accuracy.

Metaprograms are the internal programs (or sorts) we use in deciding what to pay attention to. We distort, delete, and generalize information because the conscious mind can only pay attention to so many pieces of information at any given time.

What?

The Precision Model helps identify and challenge the unconscious patterns of deletion, distortion, and generalization that limit our thinking. By applying specific questions and reframing techniques, it forces a reevaluation of experiences and communication. This shift creates new references and resources for handling tough situations.

The Mind often:

  1. Deletes
  2. Distorting
  3. Generalizing

These filters aren’t inherently bad—they’re survival mechanisms. But unchecked, they skew our perception. Generalizations like "Everyone ignores me" or "I’ll never be good enough" often fuel our worst emotional states.

How?

(Steps to Apply the Precision Model)

  1. Listen deeply: Pay attention to the language someone uses, including your own.
  2. Identify the filter: Is it a distortion, deletion, or generalization?
  3. Ask precision questions: Use targeted responses to challenge and clarify the limiting statement.
💡
Language often identifies hidden beliefs and feelings.
Sometimes it's just a pattern, and sometimes it reveals limiting beliefs.

Common Generalizations & Responses

  • All/never/every: "Everyone is mad at me.""Who exactly? Always?"
  • Should/must/can’t: "I can’t talk to him.""What would happen if you did?"
  • Unspecified nouns: "People ignore me.""Who, specifically?"
  • Too much / too expensive: "That costs too much.""Compared to what?"
  • Unspecified verbs: "She hurt me.""How, specifically?"

Example (4 Dimensions of Application)

🟧 Physical:

You skip the gym because "It’s too hard to get in shape."
Precision Response: "Compared to what? What specifically feels hard? Could one small step help today?"

🟦 Intellectual:

You believe "I’ll never understand this subject."
Precision Response: "Never? What parts do you understand already? Where could you start?"

🟢 Social:

You think "Everyone at work dislikes me."
Precision Response: "Everyone? Who specifically? What did they say or do?"

🔴 Spiritual:

You tell yourself "I’m just not meant to be happy."
Precision Response: "Not meant by whom? What would being happy mean to you?"

The Precision Model is a powerful tool to break through emotional fog. When you catch yourself generalizing or distorting reality, pause and get curious. The right question can change everything.
